CECILIA DAVID (ODESSA, UKRAINE, 1878 – MILAN, 1909)

 

 

 

 

She was trained at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in C. Ferni-Giraldoni’s class, and studied theatrical arts with I. I. Palechek. She made her debut as Lisa in Pique Dame at the theater in Rostov-on-Don, later performing in Moscow (1903, Théâtre Aquarium), Irkutsk, and St. Petersburg (New Summer Theatre Olimpia, 1905). From 1907, she enjoyed great success on Italian opera stages (Palermo, Teatro Maggio; Parma, 1908, Teatro Regio; Rome, Milan, Genoa, Venice) as well as in Spain (Barcelona, 1907) and Monte Carlo (1909). In Monte Carlo, she created the role of the Princess in Dargomyzhsky’s Rusalka. She died suddenly from an attack of meningitis.
