LEONID (LEONE) ZINOVIEFF (LITHUANIA, VILNIUS, 1876 – BELGRADE, SERBIA, 1927)
The real name of this completely forgotten tenor is Lev Gips, and he was born into a Jewish family. He studied singing in Odessa and later perfected his vocal technique in Italy. He then appeared with great success in Kiev, Irkutsk (1906–1907), Kharkov (1907), Madrid, Italy (1910), and the USA (1919). During the 1921–1926 seasons, he was a soloist with the Belgrade Opera. Among his best roles were Radamès in Aida and Eléazar in La Juive.
