DUSAN GEORGEVIC (1909 – 1999)
Dusan Georgevic was a Serbian tenor known for his performances at prestigious opera houses, especially in Europe. He began his operatic career in 1936 at the Zagreb Opera, where he debuted in the title role of Andrea Chénier alongside Zinka Milanov as Maddalena. This was the beginning of a distinguished career that included other roles at the Zagreb Opera.
In 1938, Georgevic performed at the Milan Festival, a prestigious cultural event known for showcasing opera, where he alternated in the role of Chénier with the renowned tenor Beniamino Gigli. This festival was a highlight of his early career.
After his time in Zagreb, Georgevic sang in Italy, where he performed leading roles in operas such as Tosca, La Bohème, Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, and Andrea Chénier across various Italian stages.
In 1948, he recorded an album for Decca/London, featuring six operatic arias, which were also released on 78 rpm discs. This recording was part of his efforts to capture his operatic artistry for posterity.
In addition to his singing career, Georgevic had a successful career as an engineer and served in the U.S. Army for 24 years. Even after his military service, he continued performing in concerts across the United States until 1964.
