ANTONI SALA I JULIÀ (BARCELONA, SPAIN, 1 NOVEMBER, 1893 – FITTLEWORTH, WEST SUSSEX, ENGLAND, 14 DECEMBER, 1945)

 

 

 

 

Son of the famous piano teacher Salvador Sala, he received from him his first musical lessons when he was only six years old, and in 1902 he began to study the cello at the Municipal School of Music in Barcelona, finishing four years later the six specialty courses with the highest honorific qualification. Before finishing his studies he took part in various charity concerts, and at the end of 1904, he was presented and accompanied on the piano by the master Carles Vidiella in the Sala Dessy and in the Cercle Artístic de Barcelona. In 1906 he gave a concert at the Teatre Principal (Barcelona) and two at the Novedades, in the same city, with extraordinary success, and in 1907 he won the cello competitions at the Municipal School of Music. In the same year he made a major tour of major cities in northern Spain, Biarritz and Bayonne and other foreign cities; in 1909 he gave numerous concerts in Paris. In this stay it founds with Telmo Vela de Lafuente and the pianist Manuel Infante “Trio español”. He triumphantly traveled through the German Empire, Belgium, Holland, and England; in 1912 he toured Portugal and South America; in 1914 he left Paris for the United States and Canada and later performed in Vienna, Budapest, Zagreb and other important capitals, with definite success.
