EMANUELE ISCHIERDO (MANUEL IZQUIERDO) (VALENCIA, 1875 – MILAN, 1951)

 

 

 

 

His real name was Manuel Izquierdo, and he performed under this name in Spain, Portugal, and South America. By 1900, he had already made significant appearances in Santiago de Chile, where he sang in major roles such as Otello in Verdi’s Otello, the title role in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier, and Vasco da Gama in Meyerbeer’s L’Africaine.

During the 1907-1908 season, he performed at the Teatro Regio in Parma, where he took on the role of Andrea Chénier in Andrea Chénier, Faust in Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust, and participated in the premiere of the opera Rose rosse by E. Lebegott. At the Teatro Regio, he was often partnered with the soprano Tina Poli-Randaccio.

Throughout his career, he also performed in Montevideo in 1910 and at the Teatro Real in Madrid in 1911, where he portrayed Siegmund in Wagner’s Die Walküre. He retired from his singing career in 1914.
