Description

JOSÉ MORICHE (BURGUILLOS DEL CERRO, EXTREMADURA, SPAIN, 31 AUGUST 1890 – NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, MAY, 1964)

He made his debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid in G. Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (1918). Soon afterward, he formed his own opera company and made guest appearances in Cuba and Mexico. He later moved to New York, where in 1923 he made numerous recordings for Columbia, Victor, Brunswick, and Gennett.

In the final years of his life, Moriche opened a restaurant on Long Island called Caruso, where he would perform romances, operatic arias, and popular songs. His fame was so great that he was chosen to appear alongside Carlos Gardel in the film The Tango on Broadway, playing a leading role. José Moriche thus became something of a legend.
