CARL LEJDSTRÖM (STOCKHOLM, 25 OCTOBER, 1872 – GÖTEBORG, 13 APRIL, 1922)

 

 

 

 

He was a pupil of his older brother, Oscar Lejdström (1858–1926), a renowned baritone. Later, he studied singing with George Fergusson in Berlin and Julius Kniese in Bayreuth. In 1894, he became a member of the Royal Opera in Stockholm, where he remained until 1902. In 1903, he went to Germany to continue his studies in Dresden. In 1904, he appeared at the Bayreuth Festival, singing the roles of Donner in Das Rheingold, Gunther in Götterdämmerung, and Klingsor in Parsifal. He returned to Bayreuth in 1906 to perform the role of Klingsor once again. During the 1905–1906 season, he was a soloist at the Opernhaus in Frankfurt am Main, where in 1905 he sang the role of Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Between 1906 and 1910, he gave guest performances at various German theatres. In 1910, he returned to Sweden and rejoined the Royal Opera in Stockholm. In 1912, he made a guest appearance in Amsterdam, again singing the role of Klingsor. He later worked in Stockholm as a singing teacher; the renowned soprano Nanny Larsén-Todsen was among his pupils. He was married to the soprano Elin Linnander (1888–1967).
