ARNE OLIVER KJÄLL OHLSON (UDDEVALLA, JANUARY 2, 1911 – MÄRSTA, MAY 1, 2000)

 

 

 

 

He began his musical education studying violin and music theory in Uppsala and Stockholm. Later, he pursued vocal training under notable mentors such as John Forsell, Joseph Hislop, and Augustin Kock at the Stockholm Academy of Music. His stage debut came in 1941 at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, where he performed as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni. For the next 25 years, he held the esteemed position of leading lyrical tenor at the Royal Opera. His significant performances included his role in the 1957 Swedish premiere of Alban Berg’s Wozzeck. From 1948 to 1968, he was a pivotal contributor to the Drottningholm Festival, helping to elevate it to a distinguished musical event.

After his performing career at the Royal Opera, he transitioned to teaching, working at the Academy of Music in Aalborg from 1966 to 1974. Following that, he continued his vocal instruction in Stockholm and Uppsala, sharing his expertise with the next generation of singers.
