CHARLES ALVINUS BARKEL (STUGUN, FEBRUARY 2, 1898 –STOCKHOLM, MARCH 7, 1973)

 

 

 

 

He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and with Carl Flesch in Berlin. In 1918 he made his debut as a soloist and gave numerous concerts on tours of Europe. From 1928 to 1935 he played as principal violinist with the Stockholm Symphony Orchestra. In 1938 he founded the Barkel Quartet, a chamber music ensemble. From 1926 he worked as a violin teacher at the Stockholm Academy of Music , since 1931 in the same position as a teacher for ensemble playing. Barkel has been a member of the Kungl since 1946. Musikaliska Academies in Stockholm. In 1947 he was appointed professor.
