She initially studied with Hans Schmidt before moving to Leipzig, where she continued her education at the Leipzig Conservatory under Robert Teichmüller. She later emigrated to the United States and made her American debut at Carnegie Hall in January 1912, accompanying Elena Gerhardt. She gained renown as a distinguished piano accompanist.

Her sister, Flora, was also a talented pianist and studied under the same pedagogue. The two frequently performed together before Flora shifted her focus to an operatic career.
