ROGER ALBIN (BEAUSOLEIL (ALPES-MARITIMES) SEPTEMBER 30, 1920 – STRASBOURG (BAS-RHIN) JUNE 1, 2001)
Roger Albin first became known as a cellist, an instrument learned in the class of Paul Bazelaire at the Paris Conservatory where he received his first prize in 1936. At the turn of the 1940s-1950s, Roger Albin formed a duo with pianist Claude Helffer and recorded records, including a splendid version of Claude Debussy’s Sonata for cello and piano. Since 1957 he began directing the choirs of the Opéra-Comique and from 1960 finally orchestra. In 1966, Roger Albin was appointed to the Orchester radio-symphonique de Strasbourg, a position he kept until the break-up of the ORTF in 1975.
