Description

MARIUS-FRANÇOIS GAILLARD (PARIS, OCTOBER 13, 1900 – ÉVECQUEMONT, AUGUST 20, 1973)

Marius-François Gaillard studied at the Paris Conservatory with Louis Diémer, for the piano, and Xavier Leroux for harmony. He is remembered as the first performer of Debussy’s pianistic work towards the start of his career, which he recorded for the Odéon label in the late 1920s and by the direction of the great classics (1928-1949) 3, thanks to the chamber orchestra which bears his name. He has created several works by Charles Koechlin, notably as an accompanist, the cello sonata (1917), op. 66, with Léon Laggé (Concert SMI of March 6, 1924), the first two issues of the second notebook of Shéhérazade, op. 84 (Salle Érard, May 17, 1926) with Jane Bathori and as a pianist, the Four New Sonatins (1924), op. 87 (Pleyel, June 3, 1929). As a composer, he left music for the theater, a ballet, three symphonies and several melodies. His style “in a neo-impressionist tendency” is very personal and inspired by his numerous travels around the world.
