MIKHAIL EMMANUILOVICH KHOMITSER (KHARKOV, JUNE 30, 1935 – RISHON LEZION, ISRAEL, NOVEMBER 2, 2002)
Mikhail Emmanuilovich Khomitser was born on June 30, 1935 in Kharkov. In 1958 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (cello class S.N. Knushevitsky). In 1961 he graduated from graduate school with him. Since 1957 he was a soloist of the Moscow Philharmonic, performed in the USSR, toured abroad. In 1965-1973 he was a member of the trio along with pianist D. A. Bashkirov and violinist I. S. Bezrodny. He performed with orchestras under the direction of conductors K. P. Kondrashin , E. F. Svetlanov , G. N. Rozhdestvensky, J. Crips , K. Tsekki , Z. Meta. In the repertoire of the cellist was classical music, the works of the XX century, works by Soviet composers M. Weinberg, Boris Tishchenko, A. Schnittke, etc.. He was the first performer in the USSR shows Ya Akutagawa, A. Dutilleux, Jacques Ibert. In 1961-1991 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory (since 1990 – professor), among his students about 20 laureates of international competitions. In 1986-1987 he was a professor at the Music Academy. J. Sibelius in Helsinki. In 1994 he moved to Israel, where since 1995 he taught at the S. Rubin Jerusalem Academy of Music (professor). Since 1996, he taught at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music. Among his students, the winner of the international competition in Italy and the laureate of the D. Shostakovich competition in Hanover G. Faur and the member of the Jerusalem Quartet, the laureate of the international F. Schubert competition in Graz, K. Zlotnikov. Continued concert activity. The first performer of the composition for cello solo M. Kopytman. He died on November 2, 2002 in Rishon Lezion.
