Alexander Petschnikoff was a Russian violinist and a student of Ivan Grzhimali. He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in 1891 and further honed his skills under the guidance of Joseph Joachim in Berlin.

Petschnikoff began extensive concert tours in Europe and America in 1895, performing on a Stradivarius violin that had previously belonged to Ferdinand Laub (now known as the Laub- Petschnikoff violin).

From 1913 to 1921, he served as a professor at the Munich Academy of Music, and in 1927 he began teaching at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. In 1936, Petschnikoff emigrated and settled in Argentina, where he continued to teach and perform.

He often appeared in duet performances with his wife, violinist Lily Petschnikoff.
