Description

GRIGORY FEIGIN (KHARKOV, APRIL 28, 1937 – MOSCOW, MARCH 29, 2018)

Grigory Feigin received his education in Kharkov, where he studied with Adolf Leshchinsky, and later at the Moscow Conservatory, where his teachers included Dmitry Tsyganov and David Oistrakh. A multiple laureate of All-Union performance competitions, he won the International Violin Competition in Prague in 1964 and performed extensively both as a soloist and with chamber ensembles.

Grigory Feigin appeared in the Great Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic only twice. In April 1962, he performed the solo part in Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra under Rudolf Barshai. After a long interval, on February 1, 1984, he returned to the same hall to perform Veniamin Basner’s Violin Concerto with the Honored Orchestra conducted by Ravil Martynov.

Feigin was most frequently heard at the Glinka Small Hall, where he gave four solo recitals (1978, 1983, 1985, and 1990) and appeared in numerous ensemble performances from 1964 onward. These included concerts with a trio consisting of pianist Igor Zhukov and the violinist’s brother, cellist Valentin Feigin, a laureate of the International Tchaikovsky Competition.

In addition to his concert career, Grigory Yakovlevich Feigin taught at the Moscow Conservatory and, in the late 1990s, at the Tokyo Conservatory.
