MICHAEL ZACHAREWITSCH (OSTROW, 1879 – LONDON, 1953)

 

 

 

 

Michael Zacharewitsch was born Michael Sisserman in Ostrow, Russia. From 1888 to 1892, he studied violin under the influential Czech teacher Otakar Sevcik. Zacharewitsch made his debut in Odessa, where he performed Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto with the composer conduction. Tchaikovsky was so impressed that he got up a subscription to enable Zacharewitsch to follow Sevcik to Prague, where he continued his studies for a number of years. In 1903, he relocated in England, and pursued a long and successful career there as well as making several world tours, Australia being included in 1924.
